Project Background
The customer develops industrial profile measurement and inspection equipment for checking geometry and production quality. Its software supports dimensional inspection, tolerance checking, profile comparison, measurement statistics and report generation for profiles made from materials such as metal, plastic and rubber.
Operators enter measurement tasks, dimensions and tolerances, manage settings and review results and reports. The keyboard is integrated into the equipment operating area as part of the measurement system HMI. Actual application photographs show operators using it while wearing industrial work gloves.

The Challenge
The installation area is shared with the display, controls and workpiece-handling space. The input module had to remain compact while retaining the letters, numbers and function keys needed for frequent software and parameter entry.
Gloved operation called for distinct physical keys with clear boundaries and feedback. The keyboard also needed a stable panel installation and suitable rear clearance and cable routing, so the equipment would not depend on a loose desktop keyboard beside the machine.
Fixed physical input for measurement software
The input device needed compact integration, reliable key operation and practical gloved use.
DAVOLIN Solution
DAVOLIN selected the compact D-8601B and optimized the key layout to retain essential input functions within a 300 × 110 mm format. Raised, separate physical keys provide defined key positions for the gloved operating workflow.
The project specification identifies 304 stainless steel with a black electroplated finish, USB connectivity and IP65 protection. Panel size, opening, fixing position, rear space and cable outlet were matched to the measurement equipment, integrating the keyboard directly into the front operating area.
The keyboard was matched to the measurement system’s available input area and host computer connection.

Selected Product
D-8601B
A compact D-8601B metal keyboard for profile measurement and inspection equipment. It uses 304 stainless steel with a black electroplated finish, measures 300 × 110 mm and provides USB connectivity and IP65 protection.
Project Result
The keyboard was installed and used in the customer’s actual profile measurement and quality-inspection equipment. Operators can enter numerical parameters, system settings and report-related information directly at the control area without an additional loose desktop keyboard.
Project photographs show the installed keyboard being operated with industrial gloves, confirming its role as a fixed physical input interface within the working equipment.

Looking Ahead
Cooperation extended from the first measurement system into new equipment designs. The customer continued evaluating and adopting DAVOLIN input solutions for different panel spaces, layouts, dimensions, mounting arrangements and interfaces.
As further designs entered production, the customer continued placing orders. The relationship developed into ongoing supply across multiple equipment designs rather than only a repeat of one unchanged keyboard configuration.
