Project Background
The customer required a keyboard for underground equipment in Shanxi, China. The input unit needed to become a fixed part of the equipment while meeting the project’s explosion-proof configuration and documentation requirements.
An ordinary industrial keyboard platform could not be treated as the finished explosion-proof assembly. Rear electronics protection, the enclosure structure, cable arrangement and electrical parameters all formed part of the supplied project configuration.
The Challenge
The rear PCB area and cable outlet needed protection while preserving the keyboard’s mechanical fit and USB operation. A metal back structure and a project-specific cable solution had to be incorporated into the complete input assembly.
The configuration also needed clearly defined certification and intrinsic-safety parameters. The record for this project concerns CNEX certification in China and does not establish ATEX or IECEx approval.
Adapting a keyboard platform for a certified mine application
Rear electronics protection, metal coverage, cable routing and equipment integration were part of the explosion-proof configuration.
DAVOLIN Solution
DAVOLIN used the D-8611DESK as the base model, protected the rear PCB area, added metal rear coverage and adapted the cable arrangement and outlet for the project. The specified keyboard uses 304 stainless steel, measures 420 × 155 × 27.5 mm, connects by USB and is rated IP65.
Certification and electrical parameters
The project record identifies CNEX certification, certificate number CE22.5496 and explosion-proof marking Ex ib IIC T6 Gb. The rated voltage is 5 V.
The listed intrinsic-safety parameters are Ui = 6 V, Ii = 100 mA, Pi = 0.15 W, Ci = 19 µF and Li = 1 µH. Connection to associated equipment located in the safe area is subject to the certificate and installation instructions.
